The calculation above is the face-to-face measurement of an axle, not the complete tip-to-tip length.

Depending on the brakes you are using (mechanical, electric, hydraulic or none) and your bearing combination, the additional measurement needed to convert face-to-face to tip-to-tip can vary.

Tip-to-tip measurement: Measure the overall length of the axle including the end of the spindle. To do this wheels and any hubs must be removed. This is called a tip-to-tip measurement.
