Matching trailer brake shoes
Choose brake shoes by matching the drum diameter, shoe width and brake type already fitted to the trailer. This range includes mechanical, hydraulic and electric trailer brake shoes for common 9 inch, 10 inch and 12 inch drum brake setups.
For electric trailer drum brakes, confirm whether the setup uses a standard Australian pattern or an American Dexter pattern. Brake shoe sets need to suit the backing plate, magnet and hub drum combination, not just the axle rating.
Brake drum and backing plate checks
Inspect the hub drum, springs, adjuster, wheel cylinder or magnet while the brake shoes are being replaced. A trailer brake shoe kit may not fix poor braking if the drum surface, backing plate or actuator is worn.
Use a qualified mechanic or brake specialist for brake shoe installation and adjustment. Still unsure which brake shoes suit your trailer? Please call our friendly sales team on 07 3205 8846.
